Understanding and Owning Your Emotional State

PEMMS Pillar: Emotional/Mental

Your thoughts create your reality. The stories you tell yourself about who you are, what you deserve, and what’s possible – these are running your life. This week is about identifying those patterns and starting to rewrite them.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

The single most powerful shift in the entire Resilience Rebuild:

From “why is this happening to me” to “thank you for this happening for me.”

This isn’t toxic positivity. This is radical responsibility. When you stop being a victim of your circumstances and start being the author of your response – everything changes.

Emotional Patterns to Recognise

  • Numbing: Using substances, screens, or busyness to avoid feeling
  • Rumination: Replaying the past on loop
  • Catastrophising: Assuming the worst possible outcome
  • People-pleasing: Abandoning yourself to keep others comfortable
  • Isolation: Withdrawing from support because you think you should handle it alone

Rewiring Tools

  • Daily journaling: 5 minutes, unfiltered, stream of consciousness
  • Nervous system regulation: Breathwork, cold exposure, grounding practices
  • Reframing: Catching negative thought patterns and consciously redirecting them
  • Emotional honesty: Naming what you actually feel instead of what you think you should feel

  • Complete the Emotional/Mental PEMMS deep-dive worksheet
  • Begin daily journaling practice (5 mins minimum)
  • Identify your top 3 emotional patterns that hold you back
  • Practice one nervous system regulation technique daily
  • Share one honest emotional insight on the weekly group call
